Jury Decides Against Execution for Moussaoui

From Ny Times
A federal court jury spared the life of Zacarias Moussaoui today, voting to send him to prison for the rest of his days rather than condemn him to death for the carnage of Sept. 11, 2001.
I have to say I am happy with this verdict not only is the Death penalty wrong but also it is a lot harsh punishment for someone who wants to be a martyr.

It wasn't so much they decided against it as they didn't have the unanimous verdict required.

It was sentancing by default. I will take that myself.

Not that I would give great odds for Moussaoui's chances if he were over to be made mix with other prisoners.

I agree Sliabh, its a good outcome even if it did come by default.

I too am pleased with the verdict. Although it was not by default, it was by design. Our judicial system was designed to error on the side of innocence and mercy. There are many times when it falls short of those goals. In this case, it worked correctly.
