Fine Gael the Monarchist party in the papers or not.

Is it just me are it strange that Irish Examineer Irish Times and Irish Independent do not seem to cover Gay Mitchell's speech. Does it not seem like a story to everyone else.?

Well, he suggested that we should aim to have an infrastructure sportwise in the city that would allow us to pitch for big sporting events culminating in a possible bid of the Olympics. The purpose being to get give us all a goal to aim for in upgrading our sports facilities and associated social and physical infrastructure. How come Gothenburg can hold European and World Athletic competitions and we can't cope with having the community games in the city?

In the corporate world, the Olympics bid would be deemed a stretch goal. We're never going to get it or go for it, though there was a suggestion about the place globally in the 80s that the Olympics might return to a smaller scale. One result of which was the capping of events. The idea that we should launch a bid was farce but the idea that we should aim to improve the city so that we were in a position to thinking about doing so was not. And it was the latter Gay suggested.
